This year’s Black Friday is going to be a special one.
For the very last time we are bringing back our Pro Lifetime Plans: Pro 1, Pro 2, Pro 3 and Pro X.
Once Black Friday is over these plans will be gone, most likely for good.
The Starter Lifetime Plan will stay available as usual (for now), but all Pro Lifetime tiers will be retired after this final round.
What to expect this Black Friday
Here is what you need to know:
- The 2025 "Black Friday sale" will begin on Monday, November 24
- Pro Lifetime Plans return one last time: Pro 1, Pro 2, Pro 3 and Pro X
- They will be sold at their regular price
- There will be special discounts on all regular monthly and yearly subscription plans
- After Black Friday, Pro Lifetime Plans will be gone for good
- The Starter Lifetime Plan stays available for now
Why we are saying goodbye to Lifetime Plans
If you have read our post from June you already know why we started moving away from Lifetime Plans.
They have been a huge part of Filen’s story and allowed us to fund our own infrastructure early on without outside investors.
But as Filen continues to grow, it’s become clear that the concept doesn’t scale forever. Selling long-term service commitments for a one-time payment may work for a while, but it’s not a model that supports ongoing development, infrastructure, and support costs indefinitely.
In that post we wrote:
"It does not really make sense to withhold Lifetime Plans all year for the sake of financial stability only to then sell a larger number at a lower price within just a couple of weeks. It is like cutting back consistently only to overcompensate in a short burst which does not align with the original goal."
That is still true today. If we want to keep Filen sustainable and keep improving the service, we have to move on.
This isn’t a reaction to problems, it’s a deliberate, forward-looking step to keep Filen sustainable, independent, and continually improving.
Lifetime Plans helped us get here, and we’re thankful for that. But continuing to rely on them long-term would eventually create more risk than benefit, both for us and for users who depend on Filen every day.
We’d rather evolve now, while we’re in a strong position, than stretch a model that was never designed to last forever.
We know it’s a bit unusual to address this so directly, but transparency matters to us. We’d rather speak clearly about our decisions than surprise anyone later.
We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Filen over the years, whether through a Lifetime Plan or a subscription. Your support has allowed us to stay independent and keep growing.
