Security Audit
The planned security audit has been postponed until after the release of API 4.0, as the upcoming backend changes will fundamentally reshape the codebase. Conducting an audit beforehand would not provide meaningful results. Once the new architecture is finalized, we will carry out a comprehensive security audit.
Filen Spaces
Filen Spaces will be Filen's new solution for businesses, families, and teams. These virtual data spaces will enable seamless data sharing and transfer within groups and across cloud accounts, while allowing the assignment and revocation of access rights for group participants.
API 4.0.
After the Rust integrations are complete, we will begin one of the most ambitious projects in Filen’s history: API 4.0. It will redefine our encryption architecture, take zero-knowledge privacy to a new level, and introduce a modern WebSocket-based communication layer. The result will be faster performance, lower network usage, and a new foundation for Filen Spaces and the future of Filen.
Mobile App Rust Integration
The Filen Mobile App will adopt the new Rust foundation following the web and desktop implementations. This transition will unify all Filen platforms under one high-performance, secure, and consistent codebase.
Sync Engine Rewrite
We are rewriting the desktop client’s sync engine from the ground up to achieve improved performance, enhanced stability and will eliminate edge-case bugs and unwanted sync behaviors. The rewrite is being developed in parallel with the ongoing Rust integrations across the web app, desktop client, and mobile app foundation.
Marketing Campaign
We will launch a small marketing test campaign after the affiliate program to identify high-conversion channels and further refine our messaging. The results will guide future scaling efforts.
Black Friday 2025
We’re planning a Black Friday sale with special discounts across our plans. Additionally, we may reintroduce the Pro Lifetime plans for a limited time - a rare opportunity, as they have otherwise been discontinued. Final details will be shared closer to the event.
Web App & Desktop Client Rust Integration
The migration of both the web app and desktop client to the new Rust SDK is currently underway. Throughout the rest of 2025, more components will be rewritten in Rust as we move closer to replacing the existing TypeScript SDK entirely in early 2026.
Mobile App Rework Release
The new Filen Mobile App for iOS and Android has officially been released. Following an extensive beta phase, the rollout is now underway and will gradually expand to all users.

In Q3, the new mobile app rework will enter the closed beta phase. It is difficult to predict how long it will remain in this stage, but we are optimistic that there will be no significant obstacles to an early launch.

Following the overhaul of the new desktop client, the Filen Mobile App for iOS and Android will be the next to receive a major update. However, we anticipate several months of development time.
Rclone Integration
We began work on Rclone integration in early 2025, starting with a closed beta to gather early feedback. Following successful testing and refinements, the public beta was launched later in Q2, making Filen accessible through the widely used Rclone interface.
Infrastructure Investments
Significant investments in servers will finalize the 'In-house Server' project for now, positioning Filen for the upcoming marketing campaign in 2025.
Web-Drive updates
The release of the new Web-Drive update will feature a redesigned UX/UI and small new features, aligned with the new desktop client.
The Desktop Client rework
Release of the new Filen Desktop Client with the following features: A 'real' cloud interface with all Web-Drive functionalities, Virtual Drive mounting, WebDAV support and more
